What
have we done this past year?
Each
month at our Committee meetings there seems to be something
new arising to be dealt with, and it is only when we know
of things happening etc. that we and you can have things
done. This is another reason for all of us to make use of
the Councillor and Police Surgeries.

This
was a success with co-operation with the folk from the area,
youth and friends from the Point (Youth venture held every
Sunday 6.30-8.30 in the TRACCS's centre). Approx 50 bags
of rubbish was picked up and taken to the Council Tip as
well as other items. A large plan of the area was created
by the young people from the North Area Forum Youth. This
was on display all day and various comments were made regarding
what would folk like to see done in the area etc.
Councillors
Surgeries -
Many folk have helped at the Councillors Surgeries. Jobs
that have been promised to be done by the Council have now
been done. Some jobs were over 12 months old waiting to
be seen to.
Speeding
in Whittern Way -
Speed checks have been done and another is due soon with
a new Lazer Gun which should stop one or two from speeding
and driving dangerously.
Overgrown
Trees -
Some trees have been pruned and others are to be done. We
have notified the Council regarding the trees outside the
flats and houses across from Aramstone Drive where the roots
are causing problems by the houses.
Flooding
-
Perhaps you didn't know that we have floods in this area.
Ask the people who live in Prospect Walk by the Park Area.
We have had sandbags out, drains found which had been tarred
over and more work is still to be done to stop the water
going into the gardens and houses.
Cars
abandoned etc. -
Cars are on bricks and others abandoned in various areas
of the estate, quite a few have been removed but there are
still some that need looking into. Garages are being vandalised
by young people. This needs to be brought to the attention
of the Council as well as the Police.
Vandalism
-
This has been curbed of late but unfortunately it crops
up at spasmodic periods. Some youths have been prosecuted
and it is up to us as a community to keep police informed,
even if you think nothing is being done. Use the 'phone
(276422 for police) or even ring 0800 555 111 Crime Stoppers,
your call is free and you don't have to give your name.
Other
Items -
We have had kerbs lowered, better lighting in areas, had
the Dog Warden out, various problems sorted out sometimes
with just a quiet chat, other times had to call out the
Council for folk.
Disco
for young folk We
have had one disco but others will be planned and we intend
to shortly open the centre on a Friday night for the young
people. We will let you know when.
COUNCILLOR'S
SURGERIES
At the Terry Ross Arts & Community Centre 2002
This
has proved profitable for a number of folk over the past
year. Please note the dates. Each month the time is from
10.00 until 11.00am - every third Thursday.
POLICE
SURGERIES
These
will be held in the Terry Ross Centre on the fourth
Thursday of each month and at the following times, March,
May, July, September, November - at 10.00 until 11.00am
February, April, June, October, - 7.00 until 8.00pm
Please
avail yourself of these times, it could be beneficial to
others as well as yourselves.
Entertainment
etc.
We
have applied for an entertainments licence so that we can
have a Disco for the Young People and other events which
we would like to see put on. This will not be until February
as this is the beginning of the licensing year.
We
intend however to open up the TRACC's centre on a Friday
evening for the Young People. We have to get a rota of folk
who will be willing to help, and a timetable for events
or whatever the young folk want.
Ideas and help please from your good
selves.
Just
see John Hyde in the Post Office and watch the windows of
the shops for details. The young people will soon let you
know.
Besides
this the young people are welcome on a Sunday night 6.30
- 8.30pm at "The Point" held in the TRACC's centre.
