Q.
Assuming the transfer goes ahead, what will happen if
a tenant wants to move or exchange houses?
A.
No change, tenants can still do this with the new landlord.
Q.
What will happen to the replacement of the Gas Central Heating
System which is meant to be carried out between now and
March?
A.
This will still take place. Irrespective of the Stock Transfer
proposal the Council has to continue to deliver the Housing
Service.
Q.
Will we be able to meet the organisation who want to take
over?
A.
There will be a public meeting where all tenants will
be invited to meet representatives of the organisation.
This will be done as part of the consultation process.
Q.
Will there still be waiting lists for properties?
A.
Yes. This statutory responsibility will be held by the Council.
But the Council may look to contract out this function.
Q.
Will the stock transfer take place with the Council's blessing?
A.
Yes, the Council is making this proposal to you as it believes
it is the best way forward to ensure properties are maintained,
managed and modernised.
Q.
Will there be any changes or pressure on tenants who live
alone, or elderly tenants?
A.
No. Tenants will not be made to move out against their will.
The only way a landlord can get you out of your property
is if you breach your tenancy agreement and even then it
would still be matter for the Courts to decide if possession
is granted to the landlord.
Q.
What happens to the votes of those people who decide not
to take part in the ballot?
A.
Their votes are not counted. They are not assumed to be
'yes' or 'No' votes. It is exactly the same as a Political
Election, a vote not cast is not counted.
Q.
Will we be able to vote as to who goes on the Board?
A.
If the transfer takes place following the first AGM (full)
of the Board, tenant members will have to be checked by
all tenants.
