Transfer to take place after tenants vote in
favour of the Council's proposal

Herefordshire Council is set to transfer the ownership and management of it's 6,000 homes to Herefordshire Housing later this year - which will mean £82 million of investment in tenants' homes.

The transfer is to go ahead after 58% of tenants voted Yes, with 73% of all tenants voting in the ballot held in March/April.

Over the coming months a considerable amount of work will be carried out to ensure that transfer works from day one.

Staff will be working round the clock to set up Herefordshire Housing, the new, independent not-for-profit local housing company which will own and and manage tenants' homes.

Repairs & Improvements

Once transfer goes ahead tenants will benefit from the multi-million pound repair and improvement programme, including new kitchens and bathrooms, double glazed doors and central heating.

And remember once the homes are brought up to modern standards you have the right to expect, Herefordshire Housing will make sure they are kept up to the same standards in the long term future too.

Rent Guarantee

Transfer will mean that tenants' will get a five year rent guarantee and rights and entitlements will be protected.

It also means that tenants will have a real say in how their homes are run with seats on the Management Board of Herefordshire Housing.

Lead Housing officer, Tony Jaques, said: "Tenants have had their say. They have voted for improved homes and a better housing service".

"Now it is up to Herefordshire Housing to deliver these promises, but before this is possible a great deal of hard work needs to take place".

"Over the coming months we will be putting into place everything that will ensure Herefordshire Housing provides a first class service".
