Tenants' Disability Group |
Minutes
1.
Welcome and apologies.
There were nine members of the group present at the meeting, with one guest,
our speaker, Mr J Newman.
Apologies were given by, Teresa Buckley, Anne Reed, and Mrs. E Burton,
Nigel.
As Teresa was absent, David took the meeting.
2.
Guest Speaker.
Mr John Newman, who gave The Group an interesting talk on the history
of The May Fair.
3.
Minutes of last meeting.
As there were no minutes of the last meeting the Group moved on to
item four on the agenda.
4.
Treasurer's Report.
Elaine told the group that the balance of The Groups account now stood
at £1,633.71. Elaine asked for a proposition that the £1,000, should
be transferred to a new No Notice Account at the HSBC. This was proposed
by Margaret and seconded by Jean.
£10 was raised by the raffle this morning.
5.
Trip Update.
Dave told the Group that he thought that the trips were enjoyed by all who went
on them, and that we always seem to have good weather. He
is hoping to run trips in May, June, July, August, September, October and the
Christmas trip in December, 2003. He also said that he would like to run a few
Sunday afternoon trips, these were to be local and would, if they were run,
would run two weeks after the main trips. This would need to be looked into
if the Group so wished. This was all proposed by Nancy and seconded by Howard.
A full list of the places that would be visited
will be provided in due course. The Christmas trip for this year is to Webbs
on the 10th of December, leaving Merton Meadow Car Park as near 9.30 as possible.
Father Christmas will we hope be at Webbs for our trip, those wishing to see
him should send David a note in the usual way.
( Up the chimney) ( Sorry I got carried away)
6.
Aids and Adaptations.
Dave told The Group that he had heard from The Federation, that all aids and
adaptations had been stopped. The reason it seems was due to lack of funding.
This led to two questions being asked by members of the Group,
1. Why, when Tenant Participation was wanted and indeed needed by the
Council, was The Disability Group not informed of this decision. Surely, this
Group is most affected by this action. Therefore if The Councils words about
Tenant Participation mean anything then this Group should have been informed.
Perhaps someone from The Council could inform The Group why this was not done.
2. Is it not illegal to stop a service already being provided for any
reason?
It seems that the top level has been reinstated, but what of the rest?
Sue said that she had written to The Council but had not had a reply. She was
also very concerned that only category one clients were being seen, what was
to become of the rest. All who needed to be seen were surely
of the utmost importance.
Dave was asked to write to The Tenants Federation and ask them to take this
matter up with some urgency. This was proposed by Howard and seconded by Nancy.
Elaine told the meeting that The Wheelchair Clinic at Belmont was at a standstill,
due to two staff members leaving. All referrals were now on hold until the backlog
was cleared. Whilst, all in the group understood the reason, they felt that
this was just not good enough. When people in wheelchairs need them to be adjusted,
they need to have it done as soon as they are able, as it is people have been
told that they will not be seen until next year.
7.
Crime Prevention.
Dave handed out some leaflets and door stickers that he had been given, and
told the members that it was most important to check callers before opening
the door, and NOT to given out any information over the phone. One or two members
had not got chains or spyholes in their doors, Nancy was going to talk to The
Council about this.
8.
A.O.B.
There was no AOB. Dave told the Group that in future AOB would be renamed Forum.
This leant itself more to a discussion and it was hoped would be more friendly
and fit more into the Groups meetings, it was agreed that this should be tried
for a while.
9.
Date of Next Meeting.
This was to be on the Thursday 12th Dec, at the Canal Road Day Centre as always.
Instead of a full meeting, it was agreed that each person should bring some
eats and we would have a party.
As there was no other matters to discuss the meeting closed at 11.35.
