1. WELCOME AND APOLOGIES
Jean opened the meeting and welcomed all members present. The group sent their
best wishes to Marjorie French who is unable to attend SHTUG meetings due to
ill health. They welcomed a new member Jo Amscombe.
Apologies
were from: Crawford Powney, Lily Halfpenny, Horace Walbyoff, Sally Smith, Gloria
Godwin, Douglas Green and David Morris.
2. MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING
All members had received a copy of the minutes. They agreed they were a
true record of the meeting.
3. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE LAST MEETING
Eddie told the group that the building work at Bulmer Avenue would not be
going ahead. Planning permission had been refused.
A tenant is under investigation due to problems with rats and a dog. The missing
sign at Innesfield has been replaced.
4. GUEST SPEAKER .
This month's guest speaker was Louise Burke. She is the Falls Co- ordinator
with the Health Trusts Falls Prevention Group.
Louise gave an interesting talk on the many ways to prevent falls, and various_exercises
the e!derly the disabled can do to prevent falls. These exercises can be done
in the comfort of your own home and in your own armchair. Remove all rugs and
cables you may catch your feet in. Wear sensible footwear, not sloppy slippers.
Medication can make you drowsy so it is important to drink plenty - 6 to 8 mugs
of water a day. Louise modelled a pair of padded pants you can buy to protect
your hips in case of a fall.
Jean thanked Louise for an interesting talk.

EDDIE CLARK
SUPPORTING PEOPLE
Eddie passed the 'Sheltered Housing Tenants Support Plan draft copy' around
the group.
Over the next few weeks your wardens will contact you individually to spend
some time with them to complete your plan. This support Plan will be used to
identify issues that you may need help with and help you get the support you
need to help you stay independent.
The team, Supporting People requires us as your landlord to record and monitor
the services we provide you.
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME
The
communal areas are to be decorated. This will run after April 2005. We will
try and keep disruption down. Improvements to your property will not be carried
out at the same time.
After March we will be looking at Ground Maintenance and repairs. We will be
consulting with SHTUG.
6. TREASURERS REPORT
After paying for our Christmas lunch we now have £247.80p in our fund.
7. TENANT LIAISON MEETINGS
FRANK
OWEN COURT .
We had a Policeman and a Community Officer attend our tenants liaison meeting.
Young lads have been causing a nuisance by running through the scheme.
We discussed how our community room is used.
8.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
ELM GROVE
We have not had a visit from a warden in the twelve months that I have lived
at Elm Grove. It was
advertised as a weekly visit from a warden. Eddie is to check.
BALLINGER
Will we be getting new internal doors? Eddie explained that at present, external
doors were being replaced quicker
than interior doors.
The floor covering in the corridors and the smell of smoke coming from other
flats is awful.
Eddie: We are always bidding for money to get improvements done. The boiler
has now been repaired.
BRIERLY COURT AND SOUTHGATE COURT
We
are always asking for a lift. People are getting worried they will have to leave
their homes because they can't manage the stairs.
Eddie: Gordon Shirley will be attending the next federation meeting. I suggest
that SHTUG's representative on the Federation, broach the subject with him.
BRIERLY COURT
Parking is a big problem here. Tenants and their visitors are unable to park
because outsiders are parking in the provided spaces.
BARKLIE COURT
We are experiencing the same problems.
Eddie suggested that tenants collect the registration numbers of the vehicles.
PENYARD
GARDENS
Some of the street lighting is not working.
Eddie is to look at the lights after the meeting.
FOWBRIDGE GARDENS
The white lines need re-marking.
Building inspector to look at parking plots.
Rats were a big problem in September and October of last year and now we have
blowflies and an awful smell.
FOWBRIDGE GARDENS AND PENYARD GARDENS.
Both schemes need the patio glass cleaned. Tenants are unable to reach the area.
9. GUEST SPEAKER FOR THE NEXT MEETING
It
was decided to invite Gordon Shirley and Jim Russell as our guests for the next
meeting.
10. DATE AND VENUE FOR THE NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held at Innesfield HR2 9RJ on Thursday 3 rd March 2005
at 10:30am.
SHTUG
members usually have their Easter meeting at the Ryefield Centre followed by
a lunch. Members decided that as Easter was early this year they would hold
their lunch for May Day.
If you are unable to attend a SHTUG meeting and do not need transport please
