4.
Guest Speaker
The guest speaker this month was Theresa Smith, Community Matron, based
at Belmont Surgery Hereford.
Theresa said she worked with the district nurses and doctors, and has been on
a training course so that she would be able to prescribe medication. Hopefully
in the future all doctors' surgeries in Herefordshire will have a community
matron. At present with the cut backs in the NHS the only surgeries that have
a matron are Belmont, Kings Street and Cantilupe. Your doctor, district nurse
and wardens can make a referral. Only the patient who has more than one illness
will be considered.
A community matron
will then make a two-hour appointment with you to discuss your illness and care
needs. Theresa said, "I can chase hospital appointments and results for
you. Also, Diabetic checks, medication and any other problems you may have.
If I can't help, I will be able to put you in touch with the relevant bodies."
Patients' will be given a single assessment and care record which they will
keep in their own home and all relevant bodies will have access to them.
Theresa can be contacted at the Belmont surgery on 01432 342211 or her mobile
number is 07973193963.
Jean thanked Theresa for a very informative talk and said members felt this
was a very reassuring
service.
5. Treasurers report
To date we have £244: 52p in the fund.
6. Tenant Liaison meeting
There had been no tenant liaison meetings this month.
7. Eddie
Eddie asked SHTUG for feedback on the sheltered housing pets' policy. Members
were able to give Eddie a constructive reply.
The warden at Small brook Gardens, Ross-On- Wye is retiring. A replacement will
not take place until after the sheltered housing review later this month.
The tenants on that scheme will receive a visit from a travelling warden on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesdays and Thursdays they will have a call from
the call centre.
Pam Haskell whose job it is to assess people coming into sheltered housing is
also retiring at the end of August.
8. Guest Chairperson for the A G M
SHTUG members voted to invite Tony Jacques to chair the A G M in October.
9. Vote on letter heading .
It was decided that it would be nice for SHTUG to have it's own letter heading.
Members voted for option A.
10. Any other business
Jean told members that SHTUG had been successful in their application to
Bulmers, for funding for a lap top for the group. She told the group that we
have now received a cheque for £630:99p.
Long meadow: Tenant requiring door at top of the stairs. Action E C
Innesfield: Any news on the foot paths at Innesfield? Eddie told the group that
a survey was in the process of being carried out by Grant Cutter on all paths
in sheltered housing schemes.
Fowbridge Gardens:
The hedge by the telephone box at Fowbridge Gardens needs cutting. The vision
of the pedestrians and drivers is impaired.
Tenants are also concerned at the volume of traffic that will be using the narrow
road past their bungalows to the new houses that are to be built. Two tenants
had received letters from the Council twelve months ago asking for permission
to use part of their garden to widen the entrance.
Eddie is to ask the Housing Officer to speak to the Council.
Members requested that a list of the results of the gardens competition be made
available.
11. Guest speaker for the next meetine
It was decided to invite the Emergency Planning Officer as guest speaker
to the next meeting.
11. Date and venue for the next meeting
The next meeting will be held at Innesfield on Thursday 7th September 06
at 10:30am.
There will be a craft sale by Innesfield craft club in aid of Acorns charity.
Jean closed the meeting and thanked Dorothy Baker for helping with the coffees.
Members also expressed a happy retirement to Pam Haskell and thanked her for
all the work she had done for SHTUG.
