· I was told years ago that I was not entitled
· I work and earn enough to get by
· I don't want to give out my personal details to a faceless civil servant
· I don't need charity
· The forms are so long and I don't understand themIf you are not claiming then, whatever your reasons, you could be missing out on a more financially secure lifestyle.
Tax Credits and Benefits are an entitlement that in a lot of cases you have already paid for. For example if you are a pensioner who has worked you have been paying National Insurance contributions and Income Tax and have probably claimed your State Retirement Pension. However, there is other support like the Pension Credit, which you may be entitled to.
Even if you have not paid into the National Insurance scheme the benefit system is there to help provide a standard of living that is acceptable.
Benefits can, at a basic level, be divided into two categories.
· Those that depend upon your income (Means Tested)
· Those that depend upon other circumstances (Non Means Tested)
